My darling, all those are treatable AND common in older cats. That's actually not bad news. My day job is in an animal shelter and thyroid issues can be put in remission now- plus diabetes in cats can be easily treated and put in remission. Also- super duper common and you didn't do anything wrong but be the best mom ever
Ack! He has diabetes. I have to take in for a full-day hospitalization so they can determine what insulin levels he'll need. I know it's not cancer or life-threatening right now but it's super stressful :(
I have 3 rescued dogs. They are my life, my furbabies. I' always rescued. And yes, if need be I'll go hungry to take care of them. Good vibes coming your way, for Felix and for you.
I have a bunch of supplies (mostly needles) for diabetic cats that have never been used or even opened. If it turns out he does have diabetes -- which is definitely treatable, for many cats -- I can send them to you.
Sending all my love to you and Felix. I work in a Vet clinic and see babies every single day who aren’t anywhere near as loved as your sweet boy, so I know he will be okay. You’re doing what you need to in order to get him the care he needs. If it’s his thyroid or diabetes, there are medications for both of those things and you’ll make sure he gets those. There’s Care Credit, if you need it to help cover the costs if you have to go that route (we take it every single day, most offices do). Thinking of you both. Xoxo
Oh, Felicia, I relate to this so much. I can’t count the times I’ve said that I couldn’t love our cats any more if I gave birth to them. Like you, I would starve before letting them go without. You are a great Mom to Felix. You’re doing everything you can for your sweet boy and he knows it. And, he is a sweetie! I will pray to the universe that Felix comes through this like the champ he is. I have a feeling he will.
we all do the best we can with our fur feets....one of my service dogs has extreme grass allergies and we go through hell and $$ every year March-November. my retired 11 yr old SD was just dx'ed with dementia this Monday...and I did the same with what could we have done to put the pieces together sooner, etc etc etc...our vet was much like your experience. you're doing all you can, and scritches to Feliz. supporting you in all of this from KY. <3
Hi, All! It looks like Felix has diabetes. I'll keep everyone posted. At least it's not cancer.
